Ricardo was a great and underrated actor--my two favorite performances of his are here in this Star Trek film and in the Marlon Brando film Sayonara, in which he plays (wonderfully) a Japanese kabuki actor.

I am with everyone else here too - I need to see this one again.
-Cangelman66https://www.blogger.com/profile/16471674180789592940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-12658184445889341932017-05-01T05:33:38.748-05:002017-05-01T05:33:38.748-05:00There's no doubt Meyer saved the franchise. The pacing, the performances, and the direction by Nicholas Meyer are perfect. Meyer rescued the series in my opinion after the snooze fest that was the Robert Wise first Trek movie. Good job; you're making me want to watch this movie again!Stephen Reginaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17050782148081105899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-57393509122977009462017-04-28T19:32:25.814-05:002017-04-28T19:32:25.814-05:00Ha! I would not be surprised if I learned that some people excoriated Bogart for having the temerity to undertake a role they thought had been "expertly" played by Ricardo Cortez.Quiggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12434473473185065992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-32313827109648582372017-04-28T18:48:17.852-05:002017-04-28T18:48:17.852-05:00I like to add little bits of trivia that i think f...I like to add little bits of trivia that i think few readers know. I'm not against re-imaginings and I like the actor very much, but I don't think it did anything special to the new movie franchise. I liked your comparison of Montalban's Khan to Captain Ahab, and how Ahab pales in comparison.

I was surprised to learn Nicholas Meyer had never seen the series before directing "Star Trek 2". I would never guess it.

I have got to see this movie again!
