I think it's always a good idea to see what inspired people which is why I've watched my fair share of Kurosawa, even though like French, I don't understand a word of Japanese. Thanks for the good words.Quiggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12434473473185065992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-65749158619115444522016-01-11T12:54:57.424-06:002016-01-11T12:54:57.424-06:00I haven't seen this picture yet, but I have se...I haven't seen this picture yet, but I have seen the American remake. I usually shudder at the thought of a remake, but when I saw The Birdcage, I didn't have access to a wide variety of films, and I pretty much enjoyed it. A few years ago, I did catch a part of La Cage aux Folles, and what you said about its being subdued is so right. I had expected it to have a similar (yet less flashy) feel to the remake. It doesn't at all.

You made a good point about dubbed pictures; you miss too much! I'll just read the subtitles. After a short while, I feel like the subtitle section of my brain just kicks in, and I'm no longer conscious of reading them. I laugh at myself when I turn up the volume of foreign films as if I might miss a word. But I always want to hear the original actors.

(I'm Spontaneous Whimsy, by the way. I couldn't get it to take my sign-in through Wordpress.)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11872721136207729058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-28139063231467536642016-01-09T20:01:32.382-06:002016-01-09T20:01:32.382-06:00ThanksThanksQuiggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12434473473185065992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722895377719228596.post-33973692406428326742016-01-09T14:08:05.338-06:002016-01-09T14:08:05.338-06:00This film is so much fun, it is the first French f...This film is so much fun, it is the first French film I remember seeing on VHS as a kid!
