An (Uninvited) Q & A

I have always liked these kinds of things; a questionnaire that delved into more personal things.  My friend and fellow blogger, Rachel at Hamlette's Soliloquy, posted one for a frequent blogger favorite; The Sunshine Blogger Award.  I wasn't one of her nominees, but I never let anything like that stop me from adding my own two cents... No rules... :-D.

1. What classic movie have you seen most recently?

Classic movie? Does this count? Last Saturday I went to see the 41st Anniversary release of the "classic" movie This is Spinal Tap. Unfortunately it escaped my notice when it was first released in theaters in 1984, but I had seen it about 1/2 a dozen times on DVD. An absolutely iconic movie, in my opinion.

2. What modern movie have you seen most recently?

The last time I was in a theater for a recent movie was a couple of years ago when I went to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Just can't seem to get up the ambition to even look to see what's out these days.

3. What's movie that was made in your birth year that you really enjoy?

The Guns of Navarone and The Hustler would have to be on this list. But there are others that some of you may have never heard of, including Atlantis: The Lost Continent (which still needs a review on The Midnite Drive-In.)

4. What's a movie you wish you had seen much earlier than you did?

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I never got to see Big Trouble in Little China in the theater. Which makes it odd that its is my second favorite movie of all-time.  Why didn't I see it in a theater? Probably because it never made it to the local one. If it was only in Dallas, I never went to see movies there at the time.

5. What movie are you hoping to watch soon?

Two new Stephen King movies coming out. A remake of The Running Man which I hope will be more true to the original novel, and The Long Walk. Both of these were originally published under King's pseudonym of Richard Bachman.

6. What's a movie you have been wanting to see for years, but still haven't?

So many. Still trying to find time for some of the films they used clips for in It Came From Hollywood (which has clips from cheesy low budget sci-fi and horror from the 50's and 60's.) Pretty much every movie there I haven't already reviewed.

7. Have you ever watched the same movie more than once in the movie theater?

I saw An American Werewolf in London once a week for all four weeks it was in the theater.

8. What movie needs a sequel but never got one?

If you've never seen it, there was a teaser for a sequel at the end of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension.  We got a sequel to the novel a few years ago, and it looks like it would have made a good one.

9. How do you watch most movies?  (Streaming?  DVD?  Theater?  TV?)

DVD.  Nearly all of the movies I have reviewed, in case you haven't noticed, are long gone from the theater.  Some are even only available on sites like YouTube, not even DVD...

10. Have you ever changed your mind and started liking an actor/actress you formerly disliked?

In a word, NO. I still refuse to watch that whackadoodle Tom Cruise. And any Kevin Costner movie I actually liked was because someone else helped out to make the movie watchable. (Like Silverado.)

11. Have you ever visited a filming location?  (Share photos if you can!)

I went to university level school at Southwest Texas State University (now just Texas State University). Several scenes in the 1988 remake, D.O.A., were filmed on campus there.  Particularly: A scene that was supposedly a girl's dormitory in the film was actually the university's J. C. Kellam building (affectionally known as The Cheese Grater...), and a scene that was at a church was the Theatre Center building. But I have never gone anywhere specifically to see a filming location.

Since I am not one of the nominees I am choosing to forgo the rest of the requirements (questions for the next blogger, nominations, etc.)
